Artsy Swan : Abstract Prints

How many times have you stared at one of those expressionist paintings on a museum wall and thought you could start an underground kindergarten paint group and sell the results for profit? I could flick a loaded paintbrush at canvas too and come up with something similar. Maybe we'll never know the motivation behind art that seems this random, but what we can take from it is a sense of controlled chaos; which so often describes the fashion industry to a T.

The trick to this trend is to find a print that incorporate your favorite colors to make it feel a little more "pretty print" as opposed to "kindergarten painting". You're much more likely to think a cute little shift in neon pink and sunshine yellow is a hot mess if those colors make you cringe. But the exact same print could take your breath away if done in calm periwinkle and moss green. Stay true to yourself and this artsy trend will be your new best friend.

Interpreted for Work:

Dress by Kate Spade   Cardigan by Hayden  Belt by Tre Vero   Heels by Christin Michaels

Kate Spade gets the refined style/crazy print juxtaposition just right in this ruffled shift; this is really very wearable for day or night! Temper the all over print with a toned down cardigan that you can belt for some added interest and waist definition. A skinny belt looks best with this more conservative outfit. Sleek matching heels make this whole look office appropriate yet alluring. Whisk off the cardigan to show some shoulder, and you've got an instant sophisticated cocktail dress for dinner.

Interpreted for Play:

Blouse by Ginger G  Jeans by Tory Burch  Clutch by Lauren Merkin  Shoes by Seychelle

How excited am I that Tory Burch does jeans?!?! These cropped cuties are done in the darkest of washes to keep the attention up top. Balance out the ultra slim fit by wearing a blousy fitting shirt. This sheer patterned top is the perfect choice for all body types for its universally flattering flutter sleeves, blousy cut, and vertical pattern. Always keep the colors of the pattern in mind when you're pulling out your accessories. You actually have more options that you think.... play off the most predominant color in the pattern and pick a color that looks cool in combo (see how Diane Kruger's fuchsia clutch looks amazing with her mostly navy dress above?!). Play it safe by going with a color that is incorporated in the patten. Or roll with any metallic, which is what we did above. Pewter is our new favorite neutral and by finding pieces that had a little extra sparkle we added some serious overall edge to the outfit.
