Snappy Swan: Any Time Stripes

Forget about Mom's Age Old (and we do mean old) Wisdom that stripes add pounds. These trim ladies prove that horizontal stripes are nothing but snappy and fun for Spring. Classic black and white will always be, well, Classic, but try dabbling in new color combinations to make this on-again trend feel truly updated: navy and red, black and charcoal, even yellow and white! Thinner lines make for a but more tailored look, while chunky ones are more punchy and playful.

If you're just dying to impose some Mom wisdom on a budding little fashionista, teach them this instead: the more obvious the stripe, the less obvious the accessories. You don't need much more than some staple pieces to round off an outfit that incoporates wide, bright stripes modeled by Hayden above- think diamond studs and nude stillettos. However, feel free to don a fedora, sunglasses, flats and a long necklace if you're going for a more skinny, subdued red and white jersey dress a la Anne Hathaway.

To get double duty out of this trend, mix and match a standard striped item with a floral piece in the same color scheme. It's the simplest of patterns, so you can easily play off it in a bold way.

Jacket by Talbots   Scarf by Echo   Purse by DKNY    Dress by Little Yellow Button   Heels by Stuart Weitzman

Look chic while staying comfy- isn't it wonderful when these two worlds collide? This one stop dress combines multi sized striping, comfortable dressing, and polished lines with ease- and the cutest little wrap belt to boot. Navy and white are about as neutral as it gets, so feel free to pump up the volume with a jacket in a too-bright-to-miss color, such as this tangerine one from Talbots. As long as you stay ladylike in the cut, you can branch out into sassy land with the color, as demonstrated above.  Only go as far as a good girl would in soft navy stacked heel platforms from the master of sexy/ classic- Stuart Weitzman. Mimic the striped theme in a jacket matching scarf. Pull it all together by wrapping it round an understated yet hughky functional tote, and you've got a fun and sophisticated office outfit.

Tank by BCBG Max Azria Shortss by Free People Gladiators by Unlisted

With the burnout stripes and hankerchief hem, this gray and white striped tank is ultra casual. Funny how the looser the shirt, the sexier the outfit these days. With that much volume up top, keep the bottoms form fitting to balance out the look..... cutoff shorts in of-the-moment fuchsia, apropos of hot summer days, will look faboo with most other tees and tanks in your closet. Silver gladiators keeps the allover cool of this outfit flowing into the slightly edgy side.  Grab a fedora and some killer aviator shades to stay looking smooth all summer long.
